On Sunday, May 10, 2026, with the cooperation of the Nagasaki International Tourism and Convention Association, we held the third session of the “Let’s Talk with Locals! Japanese Workshop.” This session featured Ms. Mai Honjo, a third-year student at Nagasaki University, who joined online and gave a talk about Nagasaki’s sweets and the latest local spots. Ms. Honjo shared many photos and spoke about the history of Castella, as well as Peach Castella, Sheese cake (Nagasaki sponge cake with cream topping), Chirin Chirin Ice Cream, and newly opened cafés she recommends, all while weaving in her personal experiences. Since most participants were fans of sweets and travel, everyone listened with great enthusiasm.
During the Q&A session, participants asked lively questions about recommended shaved ice shops, fruit-based sweets other than peach, souvenir suggestions, and café parking availability. The workshop once again provided a wonderful opportunity for active exchange with local people and achieved a high level of participant satisfaction.
Only one session remains in this workshop series. The next session will be held on May 31, featuring a talk on “Things to Enjoy in Nagasaki.” The program will introduce hands-on experiences available in Nagasaki and guided walking tours around the city. If you are interested, please join us!
